Iced tea peach. Lady grey tea. Guimauve.

Local heirloom

Daannissa is the name of a sub kebele (small area within a larger municipality) from which the group of 37 farmers that contributed to this lot are located. Each farmer owns on average a plot of around 3 hectares. In this area coffee grows under a natural shade canopy of forest, as is common for Guji coffee. This fertile and nutrient rich land consists of clay and loam. All of these farmers are trained in agronomy and post-harvest practices by the "King of Guji", Ture Waji, who is also managing the dry mills in the area. Here, lots are tagged and separated and recorded with the start date of drying. Moisture content changes are recorded daily to ensure even and effective drying, in turn ensuring the long-term quality of the lots.

It's rather uncommon to have such a small and knowledgeable group of coffee farmers supplying to one washing station in Ethiopia so this coffee was quite impressive on paper. During cupping Tane's hunch was confirmed by the gentle caress of their taste buds by this beauty. Drinking coffee from Ethiopia is like going to Disney Land: whatever your age and background - it's always fun and magical. Tea is the main theme here: black with agrumes aka lady grey. Chuck in some more childhood memories with a white Guimauve (Maria statue candy) and you get Daannissa.
