Grown in the lush foothills of Chirripó, Costa Rica’s highest mountain, this coffee from Corazón de Jesús reflects the quiet transformation of the Brunca region - long overlooked, now a rising name in specialty coffee.

Managed by John Alvarado and his family, the farm is a leading example of the micro mill model, where processing happens on-site, allowing for greater control and experimentation. Their work has played a key role in shifting Brunca’s reputation, with a focus on modern processing and cultivar selection.

This particular lot, grown at the El Salitre plot at 1,800 masl, benefits from rich volcanic soil, ideal elevation, and a unique microclimate shaped by the lakes and mist of Chirripó - known in the local language as the land of eternal waters.

The coffee is rich and decadent, with tasting notes of chocolate mousse and caramelised fig, offering a comforting yet complex cup. The farm also participates in Costa Rica’s Bandera Azul program, promoting sustainability through responsible land and water management.

A thoughtful and delicious offering, this lot from The Barn’s selection demonstrates just how far Brunca has come and where it’s headed.
