FOR THE COFFEE

The story of the Nunes family begins with Osmar Pereira Nunes, the family patriarch, who laid the foundation of their farming tradition through cattle raising. In 1984, his son, Osmar Junior, took a bold step and planted 10 hectares of coffee on their farm in Cerrado Mineiro. The following year, he added another 7 hectares and he hasn’t stopped growing since.

“There isn’t greater fulfillment for a producer than to arrive at the farm and smell the flowering coffee,” says Osmar Junior.

Over the past 30+ years, the Nunes family has steadily expanded their coffee farm. Today, the third generation is firmly rooted in the soil. Gabriel, Osmar Junior’s son and a trained agronomist, brings scientific expertise and a fresh perspective to the business. Together, father and son have transformed their farm from bulk commercial production to quality-driven specialty coffee.

“Today, it’s essential to balance the social, environmental, and financial pillars of farming,” Gabriel explains. “Planting is no longer just about volume, it’s about quality, smart soil management, reducing inputs, and aligning with what the market seeks.”

Their commitment to excellence includes replanting 10–15% of their coffee trees annually to ensure long-term productivity and cup quality.

This lot is made up of several Arabica varieties, naturally processed. After harvesting, the coffee cherries are laid in thin layers on open-air terraces to dry under the sun. The cherries are turned regularly to ensure even drying, which takes about 20 days.

ABOUT Beansmiths

Beansmith’s started in 2013 as a small roasting project in a converted smithy near Prague, born out of pure passion for specialty coffee. What began with a basic electric roaster has grown into one of the Czech Republic’s most respected roasteries, now powered by a state-of-the-art Loring for precision and consistency.

Their approach is all about highlighting sweetness, balance and the unique character of each origin. They work closely with trusted producers and return to origin regularly like their recent visit to Colombia - to deepen relationships and understand how premiums impact communities.

Led by founder Petr and a small, dedicated team, Beansmith’s also plays an active role in growing the local coffee scene through cuppings and barista trainings. We’re thrilled to welcome them as our next guest roaster and to share their thoughtful, clean and expressive coffees with you.
