FOR THE COFFEE

After a year without, it's a real pleasure to get back the Fazenda Passeio, one of Cloud Picker's favourite and most consistently selected single origins over the last few years.

The cleanliness of this coffee has always stood out for a Brazilian natural and this season's crop is no exception. Cloud Picker were lucky to meet the producer, Adolfo Henrique Vieira Ferreira, when they exhibited at the World of Coffee festival in Berlin - they even had a brew of his coffee ready when he wandered over to their table by chance!

Fazenda Passeio has been owned by the Vieira Ferreira family for four generations. Adolfo puts a strong emphasis on protecting the environment and biodiversity in and around the farm, and on supporting his workers through initiatives such as providing schooling for their children.

Fazenda Passeio lies near the town of Monte Belo in the southern part of Minas Gerais, an area well known for producing some of Brazil's finest coffees. The farm has 130 hectares dedicated to coffee production.

This coffee is hand picked, which is still unusual in Brazil. Handpicking generally results in more evenly ripe cherries going into production. The cherries are pulped the same day as picking to avoid fermentation defects, then dried on patios for a few days before being finished in mechanical dryers.

ABOUT Cloud Picker

Established in 2013 by Frank Kavanagh & Peter Sztal. Having worked in graphic design and corporate banking respectively, they took the leap and opened up their own coffee roastery. Cloud Picker coffee isn’t just roasted in Dublin, it’s chosen for its personality which means we go beyond the usual places to find it.

The name 'Cloud Picker' came from their trip to Northern Thailand where they visited a coffee farm in the Doi Chang area on the Thai / Burma border and where they went up through the clouds to see the coffee pickers! Thailand wasn't known for it's speciality coffee back then so it's interesting to see how far it's journeyed since.
