FOR THE COFFEE

La Cumbre is a standout Guatemalan coffee recently introduced to The Barn through their partner Nadine Rasch. The farm is owned by Catalina Jose, who inherited the land from her father and was inspired to carry on his legacy of coffee farming in the breathtaking region of Huehuetenango.

Located near San Antonio Huista, La Cumbre - meaning the summit - is one of the highest elevations in the region, offering ideal conditions for cultivating specialty coffee. The farm’s lush, mountainous landscape and fertile soils support the growth of Caturra, Bourbon, and Pache varietals, all shaded by evergreen grevillea trees that help maintain a balanced microclimate.

Catalina and her family are deeply involved in every step of the process. She personally oversees the fully washed processing of the coffee, which results in a cup that is refined, sweet, and crisp—a beautiful expression of the Huehue terroir. Due to the steep terrain, harvested cherries are transported by horseback from the farm to the main road before being loaded onto trucks and brought to the mill.

La Cumbre is a testament to the dedication and resilience of small-scale producers and the unique flavour potential of Guatemala’s highlands.
